Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s former Foreign Minister, has stepped down from his parliamentary role to embrace a senior leadership position at BYD, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer. Szijjártó announced via social media that he had accepted “a highly prestigious offer” to join the company, leaving his political career behind to oversee external relations and spearhead the development of new business areas for BYD.
BYD, recognized as the world’s largest producer of new-energy vehicles, is intensifying its operations in Hungary with the construction of a substantial manufacturing facility in Szeged. This venture is one of the most pivotal economic investments in Hungary, a project that Szijjártó actively supported during his tenure in government. The company has established itself as a formidable leader in the global electric vehicle market, having sold over 4.5 million vehicles worldwide and surpassing several key competitors in recent years.
