Greece maintained its lead in the Nations League group standings after a thrilling 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. The home team initially dominated the match, establishing a 2-0 lead before the Netherlands mounted a comeback.

The Greek side showcased impressive form in the first half, with Fotis Ioannidis opening the scoring in the 23rd minute after connecting with a header from Giorgos Masouras. Masouras further extended Greece’s advantage in the first-half stoppage time, capitalizing on a defensive error by the Netherlands to score from close range.

However, the Netherlands came back strong in the second half. Virgil van Dijk narrowed the gap in the 59th minute, heading in a goal from a Joey Veerman corner. Despite a late crucial save by Greece’s goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis, the Netherlands managed to equalize in the 89th minute when Tijjani Reijnders scored from close range.

The draw leaves Greece at the top of the group with seven points, two points ahead of the Netherlands. Greece will look to extend its lead when it hosts Germany on Sunday.
