Lidl Hungary has launched its largest logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, marking a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This new facility is set to bolster the retailer’s supply capabilities by serving around 70 stores throughout the nation. With a sprawling area of over 83,000 square meters, the center has already created more than 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees soon.
The advanced logistics center is equipped with state-of-the-art features, including 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section designed to handle a substantial volume of goods. In line with sustainability goals, it boasts a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar panel installation and an innovative system that recycles waste heat from refrigeration units for underfloor heating. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space has been developed to enhance the ecological footprint of the area.
This new hub is poised to significantly strengthen Lidl’s nationwide supply network, with the facility expected to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily. The expansion supports Lidl’s strategy to enhance its operational efficiency and meet growing consumer demand across Hungary.
Lidl, which currently operates 220 stores across the country, sources nearly 60% of its products from local Hungarian suppliers. The establishment of this logistics center is a cornerstone in Lidl’s plan to expand its presence further and cement its role in Hungary’s retail sector.
