Zelensky’s Warning: Russian Drone Swarm Breached NATO Airspace

In a stark warning to the West, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that a large-scale Russian drone attack earlier this month breached the airspace of NATO member Poland. The allegation, if true, represents a serious escalation and a direct challenge to the security of the North Atlantic alliance.
Speaking to reporters, Zelensky detailed the September 10 incident, stating that of 92 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by Russia towards Poland, 19 managed to cross the border and enter the country’s eastern regions. He noted that Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted the majority of the swarm before they could reach NATO territory.
This explosive claim was made as Zelensky also highlighted other regional tensions, including an ongoing dispute with Hungary over an alleged drone incursion into Ukraine. These incidents paint a picture of an increasingly volatile security situation on Europe’s eastern edge, with a high risk of spillover from the conflict.
Amid these threats, Zelensky is pushing hard to bolster Ukraine’s military. He announced that he had reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump to pursue new deals for long-range weapons. A Ukrainian delegation is being dispatched to the US to work out the technical details of the purchase, which will add to a $90 billion aid package.
The need for robust air defense has never been clearer. Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine’s capabilities were recently enhanced by the delivery of a US-made Patriot system from Israel, with two more systems expected in the fall. These defensive assets are vital for protecting not only Ukraine but also its neighbors from escalating aerial threats.
